Today marks the start of Fortnite’s screening of We The People in its Party Royale Mode. We The People is an anti-racism presentation from OPUS United streaming at 2-hourly intervals throughout the weekend.
Hosted by news commentator Van Jones, We The People will feature a “series of conversations that advance the dialogue around race in America with prominent BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and People of Color) voices in business, sports, media, music, and entertainment”.
Guests include former Teen Vogue Editor-in-Chief Elaine Welteroth, rapper Killer Mike, journalist Jemele Hill, and more. The panel will be discussing “how to change systemic racism in media, culture and entertainment”.
When is it on?
Anyone wanting to check out the presentation can do so Today from 2:46pm in the UK, or 8:46am CT. The CT start time is a reference to the 8 minutes and 46 seconds police officer Derek Chauvin knelt on George Floyd’s neck, leading to his death and sparking ongoing anti-racism protests worldwide.
Don’t worry if you can’t make the first showing of the presentation though. Fortnite will be repeating the conversations every other hour for 24 hours after the inital screening.
Fortnite has become a regular site for various sources of entertainment since the beginning of the current global pandemic. Earlier in the year we saw a live performance from Diplo, featuring several other popular musicians. Then, just last weekend, we saw a territory-dependant Nolan film take to the Fortnite party screen.
In the absence of actual meeting spaces people feel comfortable attending, Fortnite has stepped up to provide a surprisingly effective alternative. Regardless of your opinion on Fortnite, it’s great to see their platform being used in such a positive way.
