The Simpsons: Hit & Run is one of the internet’s most-asked-for remakes, yet one that will probably never be.
However, a passionate fan has taken it upon themselves to do a remake all on their own.
Reuben “Reubs” Ward has recently uploaded a trailer of his project.
The remake showcases what is possible in the Unreal Engine 5 – if we needed more evidence of the software’s prowess.
Taking the old game and amalgamating it into an impressive and interconnected open world, Reubs has made some amazing headway with it.
So much so, that back during the original remakes uploads (more on that in a sec), the original Hit & Run‘s lead designer, Joe McGinn praised Reubs, saying;
“Amazing what you accomplished. Really gives a taste of what a full modern remaster could be. Impressive work!”
As alluded to above, this isn’t Reubs’s first outing with the project.
Last year, the project was making headlines.
Sadly though, Reubs pulled the Patreon posts for fears of legal disputes.
Which has also had an impact on this project.
Reubs was quick to make sure everyone knew that this was a passion project and merely a showcase for him (and the Unreal Engine). As such, it will never go on sale.
“This is a fan remake for entertainment purposes, this game will never be available to download”, the new trailer states.
As sad as that is, fans clamouring for a remake can still take solace in Reubs’ efforts – and enjoy a truly amazing, detailed experience.
For God’s sake, Radical Entertainment/Fox Interactive, do something with this guy!
