Everything From Today’s Pokémon Direct

The 20-minute Pokémon Direct video has finished broadcasting, and despite its size, there was a heck of a lot of content to unpack.

Firstly, The Pokémon Company made the surprise announcement that Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Rescue Team DX will arrive on 6th March. A port of the Nintendo DS games, the new Switch edition has a free demo available today.

There was also the confirmation that Pokémon Home app will be available in February. Acting as an online bank for all your Pokémon across multiple titles, players will be able to deposit and withdraw Pokémon when they like. It also will allow Pokémon from Pokémon Go to Sword and Shield.

Arguably the Direct’s main point though was the announcement of the Pokémon Sword and Shield Expansion Packs. As Nintendo detail them;

“Your adventure continues with the Pokémon Shield Expansion Pass, containing new stories to experience, new Pokémon to encounter, and new Wild Areas to explore. You’ll even meet new and returning Legendary Pokémon along the way! The Expansion Pass contains two expansions, releasing in summer 2020 and autumn 2020 respectively”.

The Isle of Armor – Coming End of June 2020

“Get ready to venture through a giant island off the shores of the Galar region, the Isle of Armor! Filled with beautiful nature, you’ll find beaches, bogs, forests, caves and dunes.

Take up an apprenticeship under the former Galar Champion, Mustard, who’s also the mentor of Champion Leon! Meet new rivals, hone your skills and master new fighting styles with the Legendary Pokémon: Kubfu”.

“You’ll also be able to Gigantamax the final Evolution of the partner Pokémon you chose to start your journey with. Look forward to discovering Rillaboom, Cinderace or Inteleon in their new form, and a new G-Max Move to boot!”

The Crown Tundra – Coming Autumn 2020

“Lead an expedition in the snow-swept realm of the Crown Tundra and unravel the mystery of the Legendary Pokémon Calyrex who once ruled over it”.

“Through a new form of co-op play, your voyage will even allow you to explore deep within Pokémon Dens, which you could only previously get a glimpse of during Max Raid Battles. You may even see Legendary Pokémon from past games Dynamaxing before your eyes, and you’ll be able to catch them!”

“When you pre-purchase the Pokémon Shield Expansion Pass from Nintendo eShop, you can receive a free Pikachu Uniform and Eevee Uniform that can be equipped right away!”

So, as we said, a whole lot to unpack from such a short video. What was your favourite announcement from Pokémon Direct? Are you looking forward to expanding your Pokémon Sword or Shield experience? A whopping 200 new Pokémon will be added to Sword and Shield through the Expansion Passes. Please note that the Expansion pass (either Sword or Shield) needs the corresponding game to play it. In other words, if you bought Pokémon Sword, don’t go out and order the Pokémon Shield Expansion pass!
