Epic Games has announced it will publish new games from different studios.
Involved in the partnership is Remedy Entertainment (Control, Quantum Break), gen Design (The Last Guardian) and Playdead (Inside, Limbo). The new partnership is a “developer-first approach” set out by Epic.
Highlighted in the partnership, Epic Games promised various new deals with each of the studios, that includes:
- Full creative freedom and ownership. The developers will retain 100% of their IPs and full creative control over their works
- Fully-funded projects. Up to 100% of the development costs for the games will be covered by Epic Games. This includes developer salaries, expenses, localisation, and more besides.
- 50% profit shares. Once Epics costs are recouped, developers will earn “at least” 50% of all revenue from the games.
Tim Sweeney, found and CEO of Epic Games, said in a statement:
“We’re building the publishing model we always wanted for ourselves when we worked with publishers.
Hector Sanchez, head of Epic Games Publishing, added:
“Gen Design, Remedy, and Playdead are among the most innovative and talented studios in the industry, with strong visions for their next games. [they will] have full creative control while Epic will provide a solid foundation of project funding and services”.
We were briefly made aware that Remedy was in the process of producing two new titles, both of which are unannounced. The games were to be developed as part of a publishing agreement with an as-yet-unnamed partner.
