EGX 2018 – All aboard the hype train.

EGX 2018 is almost here! The UK’s biggest gaming event is now only 14 days away, and once again it’s being held at Birmingham’s now iconic NEC arena. Between 20th and 23rd September, the UK will see some of the biggest and best upcoming titles along with a massive showing of smaller indie and retro games. After the long wait since last years epic feast of gaming, everything’s beginning to come together as I type. Press releases are being released daily, interviews are being arranged, cosplayers are putting the final touches onto their outfits. Everything is in full flow to make this the biggest EGX yet.

With all that in mind, let’s take a look at what’s already been announced for EGX 2018:

The Bradwell Conspiracy

The Bradwell Conspiracy is a narrative-driven first-person adventure where players take on the role of a mystery protagonist who wakes up following the aftermath of an explosion. Working in tandem with another survivor, together, they must try to discover a means of escape before it’s too late. EGX are proud to present the first opportunity to experience this brand new title since its official release with never-before-seen content.

Exodus: Rising

Exodus: Rising is a third person single player or co-op action RPG set in a brand-new hand-crafted fantasy world developed by Studio 14 Entertainment. Studio 14 will be revealing full Alpha gameplay for the first time at EGX to coincide with the Kickstarter launch on September 19th. Why not swing by and see if you can conquer the EGXchallenge? We suggest you bring a friend!

Wavey the Rocket

Guide Wavey the Rocket on his galactic adventure to defeat the Evil2’s core. Control the wave’s shape to navigate our hero through a treacherous gauntlet that only Wavey is equipped to deal with. Taking inspiration from early 90s toys, cartoons and games, Wavey the rocket is a visually unique 3d Sidescrolling Action Arcade game with afunkk inspired original soundtrack.

The Persistence

Come along and experience a terrifying mission onboard The Persistence (PSVR), in a brand-new demo making its first appearance at EGX in the Rezzed Zone. Take on the challenge of this tense and brutal sci-fi, stealth horror, roguelike, that earned a Recommended rating from Eurogamer. You can also get your hands on the Solex companion app, and enjoy spawning enemies in to your friend’s games!

EGX 2018 Leftfield Collection

The Leftfield Collection shines a light on interesting, creative and fun games and game-like projects, many of which are in the very early stages of development. This year’s selection includes Tanglewood, a new and original game for the SEGA Mega Drive, and What the Golf?, a golf game for people who hate golf. Check out the full line-up of games below:

Valfaris, Bleed 2 & Shikhondo – Soul Eater


Valfaris is a heavy metal infused 2D action-platformer and the next game from the team behind the cult indie hit, Slain: Back From Hell. Brutal combat. Deadly enemies. Stunning pixel art. Savage soundtrack. Get ready to rip the galaxy a new wormhole… at EGX! After being selected for Indie Megabooth at PAX West, EGX is the first time Valfaris will be publicly playable outside of the US. Don’t miss your chance to play one of next year’s hottest indie prospects.

Bleed 2

Bleed 2 is a furiously fun and fast-paced run-and-gun thrill-ride with slick shooting and tightly-designed arcade action. Released earlier this year on consoles, if you haven’t given it a whirl already, come and check out Bleed 2 out at EGX and find out why Cuphead co-creators Chad and Jared Moldenhauer call it “the ultimate all-killer, no-filler game”.

Shikhondo – Soul Eater

Shikhondo – Soul Eater is a Korean bullet-hell shoot ‘em up set within a beautiful and bizarre world of Asian mythology. Set to launch on consoles at the end of August, fans of Touhou Project will want to check out this vertically scrolling shmup at EGX. Hypnotic. Intense. Hardcore.

Excalibur Games

Tracks – The Train Set Game

Jump aboard the nostalgia-train! Tracks is the ultimate wooden train game. Construct train sets without rules and transport commuting passengers. Build an elaborate railway system and then ride it in first person, from the train cab. Build the train sets of your childhood dreams with an easy-to-use editor. Just indicate where you want to build and Tracks does all the hard work for you, effortlessly mapping out turns, junctions and crossings under your command.

Flashing Lights

Enrol with the police, emergency medical services or fire department and take on missions unique to each service in an open world. Engage in desperate car chases, diagnose life-threatening injuries, and put out lethal fires! Each department has its own vehicles and equipment for you to operate while on duty. Play in single player, or work together with friends in online multiplayer to tackle incidents across a shared world.

Shoppe Keep 2

Welcome to the world of Shoppe Keep 2, Customerania – a whimsical open world surrounded by rolling countryside, packed full of quaint little houses, six foot spiders, voracious wolves, angry mobs and of course your new Shoppe. Shoppe Keep 2 is a single player and multiplayer enhanced merchant simulator, inspired by the NPCs we know and love from classic RPGs and MMOs. While adventurers and rogues are out slaying dangerous beasts and selling an alarming amount of stolen plates, cheese and bread, it’s you, our trusty merchant who is keeping their shelves stocked.

Get hands-on with Skyfront, Kartoon Racers, Backworlds & Nature’s Zombie Apocalypse


Skyfront is a fast-paced multiplayer FPS for VR junkies craving to jet around in zero-G and battle it out with equally eager opponents! EGX will see the first ever demo of Skyfront’s fourth map before the game’s launch on Steam, Viveport and Oculus Store later this year! The build playable at EGX will feature three crazy cool maps, three different game modes and a ton of versatile weapons and abilities that let you tailor the game to your play style.

Kartoon Racers

Start your engines and race in a new cross-platform arcade experience. Use weapons and power-ups against your opponents whilst competing for first place. Featuring an eclectic mix of characters from pop culture, players can race as the Queen Of Hearts, Frankenstein or even Sherlock Holmes! Kartoon Racers will make its public debut at EGX 2018 where players will have the chance to try it out for themselves.


Backworlds is a multi-dimensional puzzle platform game in which you explore by painting. Move between two parallel worlds, each with its own unique set of properties, using your brush to flow seamlessly from one to the other. Solve environmental conundrums by using each world’s physical properties to your advantage, and use your own creativity to craft original solutions to the game’s puzzles.

Nature’s Zombie Apocalypse

Humans have succumbed to a Zombie plague. Desperate to prevent their extinction, animals have been forced to take what weapons remain and fight the undead. Great bears and enraged elephants wield everything from swords to freeze-rays in a chaotic crusade to ensure their survival. Play as an animal as you battle against the apocalypse, with up to 8 player local co-op NZA is the perfect game for you and your friends this EGX!


Total War: Three Kingdoms, Team Sonic Racing & more


The year is 190CE. China is in turmoil. The Han Dynasty crumbles before the child-emperor. He is but a figurehead; a mere puppet for the tyrant warlord Dong Zhuo. It is a brutal and oppressive regime, and as Dong Zhuo’s power grows, the empire slips further into the cauldron of anarchy. But hope yet blossoms.

Three heroes, sworn to brotherhood in the face of tyranny, rally support for the trials ahead. Scenting opportunity, warlords from China’s great families follow suit, forming a fragile coalition in a bid to challenge Dong Zhuo’s remorseless rule. Fist of the North Star: Lost Paradise

Persona 3: Dancing in Moonlight

The members of SEES are back and ready to invoke the power of dance in the mysterious Club Velvet. Not even the Dark Hour can hold them back in this exciting new rhythm game.

Persona 5: Dancing in Starlight

The Phantom Thieves return for a new heist! Will they be able to steal your heart through dance in the mysterious Club Velvet? Don’t miss this new rhythm game featuring the familiar characters from the hit, Persona 5!

On Friday at 12pm join the Creative Assembly team for an inside look on Total War: Three Kingdoms the next major historical strategy game in the award-winning Total War series. Then on Friday at 3pm take a look under the hood of Team Sonic Racing with developers from Sumo Digital.

Bandai Namco bring five UK exclusive games to EGX including Soulcalibur VI & Dark Pictures Anthology

As part of a stellar lineup from Bandai NamcoEGX attendees will be the first in the UK to get their hands on a new version of the combat-flight-action-game ACE COMBAT 7: Skies UnknownSOULCALIBUR VI will also be showcased with new characters and tournaments.

The Bandai Namco booth also features playable demos for Anime favourites My Hero: Ones Justice and JUMP FORCE, and for the first time, the first entry in a new Horror Anthology THE DARK PICTURES ANTHOLOGY – MAN OF MEDAN from Supermassive Games will be playable alongside an exclusive developer session.

Attendees will get to play an exclusive new version of SOULCALIBUR VI featuring, for the first time, Geralt of Rivia from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Developer sessions featuring 11 – 11: Memories Retold with Aardman, Twin Mirror (DONTNOD) and THE DARK PICTURES Anthology (Supermassive Games) will take place at this year’s show on Thursday, 20th September.

Black Desert Online’s Drieghan expansion

Drieghan will feature a large mountainous area, over 300 challenging quests, fresh nodes to conquer and a new menacing dragon boss called Garmoth. It’s set for release later this year as a free update but EGX visitors will be treated to a sneak preview thanks to a partnership between Kakao Games and ESL.

In addition to getting hands-on with the expansion, visitors to the Black Desert stand will also receive a free game code for Black Desert Online valued at £7.99 and have the opportunity to collect an exclusive Black Desert Online goodie bag.

Visitors will be able to get hold of the goodie bag in one of three ways; defeat the world boss in the demo, successfully take part in a PvP tournament or post a picture on SNS with BDO cosplayers using the hashtag #BDORemastered.

Throughout EGX, Kakao Games will live stream all booth activities on Black Desert Online’s official Twitch channel. Aside from content and tournament streams, there will be a host of panels with Black Desert Online cosplayers and a Developer Q&A on Drieghan’s main features. A full streaming schedule will be revealed at a later date on the official Black Desert Online website.

Play Everspace, Eldest Souls, What Lies Underground & Million to One Hero

Eldest Souls

Eldest Souls is a souls-like, pixel-art RPG. The Old Gods have long been imprisoned. Humanity has been prospering, with great Kingdoms arising on the now forsaken temples of worship. But no longer. In their final act of defiance, the Old Gods have unleashed a great Desolation upon the world. Farmlands turned to deserts, rivers to dust. The Great Crusade sent to slay the Imprisoned Gods once and for all has been vanquished, and the human Kingdoms are in disarray. A lone Warrior approaches the Citadel, ancient prison of Gods. His objective is one: Slay them all. The Studio is extremely pleased to announce that Eldest Souls Beta will be playable at EGX 2018, for the first time ever.

What Lies Underground

Attention puzzler gamers! What Lies Underground is a point and tap puzzle adventure for Android and iOS. Waking far from home in an unknown place, point, tap, puzzle and explore to access something deeper within. Can you discover the secret underground entrance? Publicly playable for the first time at EGX 2018, experience its haunting immersive soundtrack and mind melting puzzles.

Million to One Hero

Over the Top Games presents their new game ‘Million to One Hero’. A pixel art platform game with a surprisingly powerful level editor that lets you create from single levels to full blown adventures. Never seen before… You will be able to see and play it at EGX for the first time!

The Division 2, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and Starlink: Battle For Atlas

Ubisoft is going big at EGX 2018 with a huge stand hosting three major triple-A titles along with a merch booth featuring exclusive EGX show offers.

The Ubisoft booth at EGX 2018 features a four player co-operative demo of Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 and a single-player demo of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, where players can chose between main characters Alexios and Kassandra, both playable on Xbox One X. A single-player demo of Starlink: Battle For Atlas will also be available on both Xbox One X and Nintendo Switch. A Ubistore boutique on the booth will have exclusive EGXshow offers on select items and collectibles.

Tom Clancy’s The Division 2

Developed by Ubisoft Massive, Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 brings its action-packed co-op experience for public hands-on. Set in a collapsing and fractured Washington, D.C., this rich new setting combines a wide variety of beautiful, iconic, and realistic environments, where visitors to EGX will experience the series’ trademark for authenticity in world building, rich RPG systems, and fast-paced action like never before.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey

An exciting new chapter for the Assassin’s Creed franchise, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey takes place in Ancient Greece, a world rich with myths and legend. Thrust into fifth century BC during the Peloponnesian War between Sparta and Athens, visitors to EGX will have the opportunity to sample the epic journey ahead of its release on 5th October.

Starlink: Battle For Atlas

In Starlink: Battle for Atlas, lead a heroic team of interstellar pilots to free the Atlas star system from the Forgotten Legion. Innovative modular toys allow players to build unique starships, which can be customised on the fly for a new way to play, as players adapt to overcome any challenge they encounter in this epic open world adventure.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Pokemon: Let’s Go, Super Mario Party & more

Nintendo is heading to EGX with a stunning line-up of games including first play exclusives for Super Mario PartyPokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee!.

Alongside these highly anticipated debut appearances, fans of social competitive gaming will be pleased to learn that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will also be available to play throughout the event, while Saturday 22nd September will offer the next opportunity for the freshest squads in the UK to go head to head in the next Splatoon 2 UK Championship 2018 Qualifier!

EGX attendees will be among the first people in Europe to experience a new style of Pokémon adventure as they explore Viridian Forest in Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee! ahead of their release on 16th November 2018.

Super Mario Party will make its UK debut, giving visitors the opportunity to try out a range of mini-games from the upcoming multiplayer game as they compete for the Toad Cup! This is the perfect opportunity to get some practise in before hitting the boards alongside friends and family anytime, anywhere on 5th October 2018.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will also be available for attendees to play, giving UK fans another opportunity to get to grips with newcomers Inkling and Ridley, as well as the game’s new mechanics, ahead of its release on 7th December 2018.

EGX will also play host to the next Splatoon 2 UK Championship 2018 Octo League qualifier on Saturday 22nd September and Nintendo is now accepting pre-registration from full teams of 4 or 5 people. To secure your team’s place in the tournament please send an email to NintendoCommunity@Nintendo.co.uk with the subject line “Splatoon 2 Tournament EGX 2018”, providing the names or tags of your team members. This isn’t the last you’ll hear of Nintendo’s presence at EGX 2018 as there are more playable games, tournaments and stage activities still to be revealed, so stay tuned! Switch owners who bring their consoles along will be able to compete with fellow attendees and make use of the Nintendo stand’s charging stations, docks and screens.

Play Disco Elysium, Soundfall, Space Ribbon and Chill Panda

Disco Elysium

Disco Elysium is a groundbreaking blend of hardboiled cop show and isometric RPG. Solve a massive, open ended case in a unique urban fantasy setting. Kick in doors, interrogate suspects, or just get lost exploring the gorgeously rendered city of Revachol. What kind of cop you are — is up to you.

On Friday at 1pm join Aleksander Rostov (Art Director) and Robert Kurvitz (Lead Designer & Writer) from ZA/UM for a developer session exploring the making of Disco Elysium.


A lively mix of twin-stick shooting and rhythm-based gameplay, Soundfall follows the journey of Melody, a young audiophile who finds herself transported to the world of Symphonia. In search of a way home from this mysterious land where music comes to life, she becomes entangled in a conflict to save the realm from Discord, an unfathomable darkness that threatens everything.

Space Ribbon

In 2132 earth’s resources are mined to create Space Ribbon – a reality TV racing platform in the far reaches of the galaxy. Giant pandas and tigers spew out illuminated ribbons of space junk (space ribbons.) Humans race modified classic cars along the racetracks to become the intergalactic winner. EGX is the first time this game is playable at an event.

Chill Panda

Heart rate and anxiety are closely related. Chill Panda App, a collaboration between a clinical psychologist and Onteca, helps children (aged 0-8) understand and manage this relationship. The app combines emotion sensing, fitness, health monitoring and anxiety reduction exercises. Children monitor their heart rate by pressing a finger on their camera phone, telling Chill Panda how they feel and taking part in activities/ mini games that help them express emotions, based on their mood and heartbeat.

Override: Mech City Brawl, Ninjin: Clash of Carrots, Tony Slopes & Swimsanity!

Override: Mech City Brawl

Pilot your very own mech and pit them against other enormous robots in fully-destructible arenas modelled after real world locations like San Francisco, Egypt, Mexico, and Japan. EGX attendees will be able to mech some noise in splitscreen 1v1, 3-player-free-for-all, and 4-player-free-for-all.

Ninjin: Clash of Carrots

Come play this hilariously fun beat-’em-up set on a fantasy continent inspired by the Japanese Feudal era, with a heaping dose of customization options to make each stage fresh and exciting. Battle through side-scrolling worlds single-player or co-op as Ninjin, a charismatic bunny, or as Akai, a ninja fox, to recover your village’s stolen carrots from the claws of the evil Shogun Moe.

Tony Slopes

Jump into the world of Tony Slopes and race a whole host of utterly useless (but entertaining) vehicles across some of the most ridiculous and terrifying downhill terrains. Put your pedal to the metal, or whatever your vehicle’s equivalent is, and find that thrill-seeking experience you’ve been so longingly craving. Whether you’re riding a rubber dingy, an office chair or a blue whale, we advise you to keep all hands inside the vehicle at all times! Race solo or against others online and tackle some of the most extreme races, with 4 hilarious tracks to compete on, over 9 unique vehicles and 20 outlandish headpieces to show off, it’s the most downhill fun you’ll ever have! Swimsanity! is a multiplayer underwater shooter with action-packed Co-Op and Versus game modes, all supported by online and local play. You play as our hero Mooba, who uses a variety of unique power ups and weapons to survive in this aquatic world. Swing by Decoy Games booth to be part of Swimsanity! first European public demo along with EGX exclusive Swimsanity! giveaways.

HITMAN 2 & LEGO DC Super-Villains developer sessions

Developers from IO Interactive and TT Games will present developer sessions on HITMAN 2 and LEGO DC Super-Villains respectively at next month’s EGX.

At 12pm (BST) on Saturday 22nd September join staff from IO Interactive as they take to the stage to present updates on HITMAN 2, the latest title in the acclaimed HITMAN franchise. Featuring entirely new hyper-detailed sandboxes full of living, breathing environments to explore, HITMAN 2 offers players the freedom to plan the ultimate assassination utilising an assortment of tools, weapons, disguises and a variety of stealth techniques to creatively trigger their own unique chain of events.

Then at 12pm (BST) on Sunday 23rd September TT Games’ Head of Design Arthur Parsons will give attendees a behind the scenes look at LEGO DC Super-Villains, the first LEGO game to put players at the centre of a villain-centric adventure.

Both sessions will be available to watch live on Twitch and later on the EGX YouTube channel.

Play Sunless Skies and hear from developers Failbetter

Failbetter, the team behind Fallen London and Sunless Sea, will make a double splash at EGX 2018 as they bring brand new title Sunless Skies to the show floor and present the latest updates on the Victorian Gothic adventure.

Pay a visit to the Failbetter stand at EGX and set a course for the heavens in your steam locomotive! Lose yourself in a changing universe where even time can be bought. Sunless Skies is coming soon to PC, Mac and Linux.

On Saturday at 3pm BST, Paul Arendt, Failbetter’s CEO and Art Director, will share a behind the scenes look at how Sunless Skies has evolved from Sunless Sea, including an advance peek at updates coming in October. Plus at least one surprise, and not the cannibal kind. This is a must-see for Failbetter fans.

Get hands-on with Beyond Blue, The Endless Mission, Unbound: Worlds Apart & Pode

The EGX 2018 lineup of playable games continues to grow and today we have the details of four titles heading to the Rezzed area of the event. Get the full lowdown below and check back soon for more!

Beyond Blue

Beyond Blue is the spiritual successor to E-Line Media’s 2014 BAFTA winning hit – Never Alone. Play as Mirai, an undersea explorer and scientist as she works to uncover the mysteries of the deep and bring light to places forever shrouded in darkness. Attendees of EGX will be the first to have the opportunity to play a demo of the game in Europe. Take the plunge and uncover the secrets of Earth’s last uncharted frontier.

The Endless Mission

The Endless Mission invites EGX to come together to make a game! Featured at EGX Rezzed, the team from E-Line Media has levelled up The Endless Mission and is inviting EGX attendees to sit down and make a game that will be featured within the Hall of Celebrations. Come play iconic genres, mashup different elements, modify key attributes, create whatever you can imagine, and we’ll share it with the world.

Unbound: Worlds Apart

Unbound is an atmospheric 2D puzzle-platformer where the main character, Soli, can conjure magic portals to travel between different realities in order to learn more about the catastrophe that ravaged his world. Inside certain portals, the physical properties of the character or world elements can change, offering new gameplay possibilities. At EGX players will see for the first time the new art style for the game.


Pode is a co-op puzzle exploration game about two unlikely travel companions going on an exploratory adventure within a mysterious and magical mountain. Through their unique individual talents they reveal a magical world within the mountain by working together to solve the puzzles. Pode is visually inspired by Norwegian art and culture resulting in a stunning exploration game.
