E3 2021 – Nintendo Direct Roundup from 15th June

ABG’s gives you a round up of the Nintendo Breath of the Wild 2 presentation, as well as some other games, apparently…

It’s been E3 all week long, and as we come to the end of a somewhat mercurial festival, tonight it’s Nintendo in the spotlight. There have been highs (Elden Ring) and lows (everything else), so what will the worlds oldest purveyor of digital entertainment bring to the party?

Could we, perchance see the next gen Switch, or some long overdue gameplay of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2? Or perhaps we’ll just get seven thousand unknown additions to Super Smash Bros and a new Mario Party. As ever, it’s a me, Olly S bringing you all the juicy goss from the last major showcase of this year’s show.

Super Smash Bros – Yazuya joins the Rosta

YouTube player

Well, it was always going to happen wasn’t it. Of course there couldn’t be a Nintendo Direct without at least one new face to enter the ring. And this time around its a Smash Bros x Tekken crossover obviously. Kazuya Mishima, the poster boy from Sega’s famed fighter enters the fray by immediately dispatching Link’s long time rival Ganondorf into a volcano. Let’s hope this isn’t a cruel metaphor for our hopes for the presentation.

Life is Strange – Remastered Collection, Life is Strange – True Colors

YouTube player

Its official, the switch will get Life is Strange – True Colors on September 10th, 2021, whilst the Remastered collection will drop on an undisclosed date later this year. It’s an exceptional series, and deserves a Switch release. True Color us excited.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy

YouTube player

Revealed only recently at the Square Enix presentation, the latest Marvel adaptation will come to Switch on October 26th this year. It does look a lot better than The Avengers game, but then Darren looks pretty good next to Harold Shipmen, so who knows?

Worms Rumble

YouTube player

The trailer starts “Worms, everywhere!” which is something of a nightmare for me as a dog owner. Expect lots of pre-order discounts and other pointless paid for DLC. Honestly are they still making works games? Apparently so, and the next one’s available this very month, on June 23rd.

Astria Ascending

YouTube player

Otherwise known as Final Fantasy, the platformer, comes to Nintendo on September 30th. But, to relent a little, this is entirely hand painted, and looks fairly spiffing. JRPGs are Nintendo’s bread and butter, so expectations are high here, for now.

Two Point Campus

YouTube player

Now we’re cooking with gas. Or, perhaps more on point, with a toasted sandwich maker. The follow up to SEGA’s exception ode to Bullfrog, Two Point Campus comes to Switch sometime next year. This is a must purchase, surely.

Super Mokey Ball Banana Mania

YouTube player

Oh god, now they’re hitting right in the feels. Harking back to the success of Super Mario All Stars, this is one to play with your aging comrades, longing for those halcyon days when consoles were cubes, and lan parties lasted longer than your over-utilised sandwich toaster. Super Money Ball Banana Mania rolls onto the switch on October 5th, 2021.

Mario Party Superstars

YouTube player

Ugh, ok, well inevitable we suppose. The next Mario Party comes out on October 29th, 2021 unashamedly citing classic N64 maps. Don’t worry though, this one comes with “guaranteed zAnEy”, a sure-fire measure of quality if ever there was one. Don’t get me wrong, this was the very pinnacle of party game back in the day. But my god if the last one wasn’t unmitigated…(toad) stool…I don’t have any right to be writing reviews.

Metroid Dread

YouTube player

Wow, I take it all back. If this isn’t a heady slice of Nintendo excellence then I have no right slating Mario Party in an ill advised E3 write ups. Right back to the t.o.p. this looks legit straight out of the Probotector book. Which is, of course, straight out of the OG Metroid book. 100% sexy, 200% bought. Sign me the hell up.

Metroid Dread hits your 2D dopamine needs on October 8th, this year. Oh, and there’s an Amibo too.

Just Dance 2022

YouTube player

Just Dance 2022, comes to Nintendo Switch in November, 2021. Confusing.

Raw Thrills Inc. – Cruis’n Blast

YouTube player

Crusi’n Blast realises the dream of letting you both cruise, and blast. In a game no less. For up to four. Frickin’. Players. Simply breath-taking. Released Autumn 2021. It’s a Nintendo exclusive, though, as apparently Cruisin’ and Blastin’ is banned on other consoles.

Drangon Ball Z: Kakarot + A New Power Awakens Set

YouTube player

Nintendo are already in my bad books for making me write “color”. I guess that’s probably on Square Enix, but whatever. Either way, Dragon Ball Zed gets a Switch port on September 24th.

Mario Golf: Super Rush

YouTube player

Of course we’ve seen this one before, and it looks tasty AF. I have to say it though, why Nintendo and Naughty Dog didn’t agree on a full cross over is beyond me. Joel can certainly get his head around a golf club. Swinging it’s way onto the Switch June 26th.

Monster Huner Stories 2: Wing of Ruin

YouTube player

Ride your Monstie in this epic money spinner! Fight and collect eggs from your newly enslaved Monstie, in Pokemon: Ring of Ruin. Slides its way into your monthly payments, July 9th.

WarioWare: Get it Together

YouTube player

This game looks absolutely bonkers, and we’re all over it, in duplicate! The next iteration of one of Nintendo’s dark horse party game winners comes to the console on September 10th. Waaaaaaa!

Shin Megami Tensei V

YouTube player

This is the fifth game in what must be a very popular series. So, we’ll reserve judgement. Looks like a high school, Bayonetta JRPG conversation simulator. Think Visual Novel meets…ah forget it who the actual fuck knows? If you bought the other 4 this ones probably for you. Coming November 12th this year.

Danganronap Decadence

YouTube player

I don’t…I…no. Do you Japanese? This one’s for you. And only you. It comes with a free digital board game, obviously. Available later this year.

Project of Zero: Maiden of Black Water

YouTube player

Horror game with Japanese level spooks in Nier: Automata clothing. Looks fucking terrifying. And sexy. A sexy scary bastard of a game. Intriguing. 10/10 for juxtaposing next to DragonDrops Defecate. Out later 2021.

DOOM Eternal: The Ancient Gods – Part One

YouTube player

It’s Doom Eternal. It’s more content. It’s handheld. And its out today. What the hell are you waiting for?

Tony Hawks 1 / 2

YouTube player

Well hello 2004! Well yes this is about the worst kept secret since Darren’s first affair, but christ, it doesn’t get any bloody better than this, does it? Also, who is this “Tony Hawks”? Like a sober Bam Margera? Never heard of her. Out this June.

Strange Brigade

YouTube player

Genuinely never heard of this. But damn, Shit shizzles my nizzle hard. Think Metal Gear meets Uncharted, maybe? 4 play co-op shooter / puzzle solver, and looks glorious. One to keep an eye on. But don’t wait too long, it’s out later this month.

Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope

YouTube player

Obviously we had a big preview of this much anticipated sequel a few days back. So here we are officially. But don’t get too excited, you’ll have to wait until 2022 to get a taste of the new Rabbids adventure. But it does look mighty tasty.

Advanced Wars 1+2 Re-Boot Camp

YouTube player

Holy moly they got me again! Twice in the feels in just one evening should come with an R rating, or a warning at least? By golly it’s all too much to take. What a game. And the Switch is getting an absolutel two-for, with both Advanced Wars 1 and 2 available on 3rd December, this year.

Hyrule Warriers: Age of Calamity Expansion Pack

YouTube player

The first of two waves of this eagerly anticipated expansion comes on just June 18th. But guess what? Pay more money, and you get the second one in November! Absolutely free, with just one small purchase! No one ever said Nintendo didn’t price to market. Wowsers Bowsers.

Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword HD

YouTube player

What’s better than launching a successful game on three console generations ala GTA 5? Launching and unsuccessful game again on the next console you make, obviously! Jokes of course, Skyward Sword was an exceptional game, and deserves a second chance on a console some people actually bought. So here it comes, on July 16th for the Switch. In HD!!!

Game and Watch: Zelda Stuff

YouTube player

Nope. I have nothing to say about this tat. Buy it if you want, it’s out sometime.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2

YouTube player

Holy Kakariko Village, that was a lot to get through. Hands up who watched the whole thing just for this? Come on, I’ll admit to it if you do. Well tickle my biscuit, it was worth it. It’s real people, it’s REAL I tell you. Wow, I’ve really been on the /eldendring subreddit too long. But well, its a 30 second preview, so in total we have about 1 minute of footage. I’ll take it.

Nintendo, all is forgiven. Or at least it will be, when BotW2 is released at some point in 2022.
