Don’t Give Up Hope For Persona 5 on the Switch, Says Atlus

Persona 5 characters

Last week, we discussed the Atlus survey which, amongst other things, asked fans which Persona titles they would like to see imported to the Switch. Naturally, that generated a lot of excitement but we haven’t heard much since.

However, IGN spoke to Atlus Communications Manager Ari Advincula last week, asking if it’s time for Persona fans to give up on a Switch port. Her response was interesting. According to IGN:

“Advincula encouraged fans to “keep telling us what you want,” saying she was fighting for [Persona 5 to come to the Switch] internally as well. However, it’s important to point out that she also said she’s obviously “not the decision-maker” in a situation like this despite being an “internal champion” for it, so this shouldn’t be taken as an indication of what is happening or could happen down the line.”

What’s stopping them?

Hope isn’t lost yet. Having said that, it’s not the kind of firm commitment that fans were hoping for. It seems like there’s some differences of opinion within Atlus. It’s also quite possible that Sony are resistant to the move. Previous Persona titles have all been Playstation exclusives and they’ll be keen to hold onto that.

To be honest, I think it’s time that Atlus make it clear what’s going to happen, either way. I’m certainly getting a bit bored of the ongoing ‘will they, won’t they’ that’s been going on for what seems like years.

There’s clearly a great appetite from Switch owners to see more of Atlus’ games on the console. Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Strikers is due to come to the Switch later this month. Scramble is essentially a sequel to the hugely popular Persona 5, which is itself getting a revamp via Persona 5 Royal, coming to Playstation 4 soon.

Atlus have released an incredibly idiosyncratic trailer from in-game character, Morgana. This video, styled a ‘crash course’, explains the premise of Persona 5 to new fans. It also discusses new features, such as an entirely new area to explore.

Will Persona 5 make its way to the Switch? Only time will tell. But for god’s sake Atlus, do me a favour and let us know soon.
