The upcoming release of Diablo Immortal has, seemingly, hit a wall over lootboxes.
Diablo Immortal will not launch in either Belgium or the Netherland.
This is thanks to both country’s respective laws governing the application and use of lootboxes
The upcoming mobile release – based on Blizzard’s Diablo series – is due to launch on 2nd June in most territories.
A report from GamesIndustry.biz cites Activision Blizzard’s reasoning behind the cancellation as being due to, “the current operating conditions in these countries”.
A supposed email from Blizzard has surfaced on the Diablo Immortal subreddit, stating;
“Unfortunately players in the Netherlands and Belgium will not be able to install Diablo: Immortal due to the countries’ gambling restrictions. The lootboxes in the game are against the law in your country. So unless the gambling restrictions change, the game will not be released in the Netherlands and Belgium”.
Whilst Belgium and the Netherlands won’t get to play it, other territories – including right here in the UK – will be able to. Diablo Immortal launches into open-beta on PC (via Battle.net) and mobile on 2nd June.
