Cyberpunk 2077 Will Let You Pet Cats

Prepare yourselves for what is probably the greatest piece of gaming news, this side of the century. You will be able to pet cats in Cyberpunk 2077. CD Projekt Red has confirmed this after various media outlets got to have some extended hands-on time.

In a preview from IGN, the entire session was tipped on its head when encountering an animal of the feline-persuasion. The journalist in question intentionally digressed from the intended purpose of the preview which was to walk us through a few of the missions related to the story, with the purpose of exploring the city.

Show me to the kitties, please.

What About Man’s Best Friend?

Quest director Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz confirmed during E3 2019 that the studio had been talking about the ability to pet dogs as well. However, the lack of canine companions seems to be an intentional one.

“So to some degree it’s intentional that we will have very few animals, but from time to time we do have them,” Tomaszkiewiczs said. “You might have seen a cat in last year’s demo. So still in the air.”

The lore of the game says that there is relatively little wildlife left after a series of disasters and pandemics leading up to the year 2077. And in Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, the novel that inspired Blade Runner, living animals are almost entirely gone and only kept by the ultra-rich as living status symbols. So who knows? Perhaps the same thing is true in Cyberpunk. Cats, however, are still a thing. And from what we’ve seen so far they don’t seem to have changed much compared to their modern-day variants. They are still plotting world domination one YouTube-video at a time.

Bow before me, boorish ape-man. And fetch the nip.
