Extremely popular Activision remaster, Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled has had phenomenal success. It managed to pick up Sports Game of the Year at the 2019 Game Awards. Plus, CTR has enjoyed plenty of support from its community.
And a large part of this has undoubtedly been the ongoing Grand Prix events. Hosted throughout the month, there has been a number of Grand Prix since July 2019. Each one has brought a new track, new skins, new karts, and new characters to the game. All of which were brought in through free updates.
(Yes, one of the updates did bring post-launch microtransactions, but they still do not detract away from the game much).
The various Grand Prix has been a nice way to make the game feel fresh post-launch. Sadly, however, the upcoming eighth Grand Prix will also be the last as confirmed by Activision.
Crashing Out in Style
The blog post states;
“Over the past eight months, we have been incredibly proud of our seasonal offerings and we feel our next Grand Prix will be one of the best yet.
Beenox is known for going out with a bang, and with the next Grand Prix on the horizon, we announce that it will be the last official Grand Prix for CTR Nitro-Fueled. It’s absolutely a bittersweet thing for us to announce that the next Grand Prix will be the last, but at the same time, we want players to know that the race isn’t over”.
However, that isn’t to say that the game will die as a consequence. Beenox has promised that when the final Grand Prix ends, a new challenge system will pop up in its place. Offering players the opportunity to master various challenges, earn extra Wumpa coins, and more besides.
Three challenge types will carry over from the Grand Prix; the Daily, Weekly, and Pro (Monthly) Challenge. The Pit Stop will also feature an ever-rotating cycle of items found in the previous Grand Prix. Pit Stop will refresh up to twice a day, giving even more daily options to choose from.
These challenges and Pit Stop updates aren’t the only features getting an overhaul, however. One of the game’s hardest aspects is about to get even more challenging. As many fans will know, Nitros Oxide has held the top spot on every track’s time trial.
Still Plenty of Gas in the Tank
However, following the conclusion of the final Grand Prix, above Oxide’s time trials will be a new time set by a member of Beenox. If you are somehow able to beat all of these times, you can unlock a special reward. Good luck.
And if that weren’t enough for you, Beenox has also promised even more features coming despite the end of the Grand Prix! As the game carries on and more updates are released, more items will be headed to CTR. Included in the list is;
- New Characters
- New Karts
- Legendary Skins
- Legendary Skin Re-Colours
- Paint Jobs
- And more.
So, whilst the Grand Prix is coming to an end, it seems the only thing that will physically be gone will be the event the Grand Prix brought to the game. So, whilst it may be the end of an era, it doesn’t seem like things will really be changing for CTR.
