Early today CD Projekt Red released a statement on Twitter announcing that it has been subject to a cyber attack. The note reveals that an unidentified assailant gained access to its internal network, gathered data belonging to the developer and left a ransom note. This was revealed on twitter, the full content of the tweet can be seen below.
For ease of reading, we have included the note from CD Projekt below:
The good news is that it also confirms, at least for the time being, that no personal customer information was obtained in the hack, but that investigations are ongoing. The tweet also include the note left by the hacker, which indicates the theft of source code relating to Cyberpunk 2077, as well as the Witcher 3 and Gwent. The hackers also indicate that they have taken documents relating to accounting, administration, Legal, HR and investor relations, as you can see below.
Rather ominously, the assailant threatens the release of the source code, and all other documents to be released to gaming journalists within their network. They end by saying,
Your public image will go down the shitter even more, and people will see how shitty your company functions. Investors will lose trust in your company and the stock will dive even lower.
At the time of writing CD projekt have indicated that they will not negotiate with the attackers, despite being dealt a 48 hour ultimatum.
More as it unfolds.
