BioWare to Rework Anthem

Can Anthem pull a “No Man’s Sky” and resurrect itself from the ashes? Here’s hoping BioWare’s Casey Hudson can do the unthinkable

I don’t know about you, but my initial expectations for BioWare’s Anthem were very high. I imagined soaring through the sky in my very own Javelin-suit while blasting aliens in the face with my weaponized, metal onesie.

All this set to the magical story-telling and character relations that BioWare does so well. Just look at their track record. Mass Effect. Baldur’s Gate. Dragon Age. Sounds like the perfect recipe, right?

Therefore, imagine my disappointment when I sat down on launch-day and I found out how Anthem actually played.

Anthem was a deep disappointment. Not only for myself but for many other fans. BioWare knows this and has now confirmed their plans to rectify their mistakes and do right by thousands of fans.

Room for Improvement

BioWare head-honcho Casey Hudson has written a blog post on BioWare’s blog where he talks about how they are going to accomplish this.

It’s clear that Casey and his team have heard the critique from fans while also realizing that they fell short pre-and post-launch.

“I am so proud of the work the team has put into this game, and at the same time there’s so much more that we – and you – would have wanted from it”.

The blog post goes on to talk a little bit about what the team’s plans are for improvement;

“Over the coming months we will be focusing on a longer-term redesign of the experience, specifically working to reinvent the core gameplay loop with clear goals, motivating challenges and progression with meaningful rewards”.

As you can see there isn’t any concrete news. However, we can expect every detail – big and small – to be changed. Hopefully, Anthem will finally reach its full potential.

Will BioWare be able to do what games like No Man’s Sky, Destiny 2 and indeed Fortnite did. Or will they just be the latest in a line of failed and abandoned IPs? Watch this space.
