With James Ohlen, Chad Robertson, and the rest of Wizards of the Coast on the case, Archetype Entertainment is working hard to bring classic RPG elements to a new “multi-platform science-fiction” setting

Back in April, Wizards of the Coast announced its plans to helm a new video game development studio. As part of the announcement, Wizards revealed the involvement of former BioWare Lead Designer and Creative Director James Ohlen.

Ohlen has worked on titles such as Baldur’s Gate, Neverwinter Nights, and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.

Recently, Wizards disclosed the involvement of another former BioWare employee, Chad Robertson. Robertson is most recently known as the head of live services for Anthem, before leaving the company in November.

Wizards also announced the name of their studio, “Archetype Entertainment“. Ohlen will be the head of the studio with Robertson serving as Vice President and General Manager.

The new studio is based in Austin, Texas and has been given autonomy from Wizards of the Coast. Archetype has said their first project is to build a team to work on a new multi-platform science-fiction role-playing game.

This is in keeping with Archetype’s mission statement;

“We believe there will always be a place for story-driven role-playing games that put the player at the centre of an epic personal narrative with impactful choices. We are building games that represent the diversity of our audience”.
