Bill Gates Leaves Microsoft’s Board

Bill Gates, the co-founder of Microsoft has announced that he is leaving the company’s board. Instead, he will spend more time pursuing his philanthropic work.

Gates started the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in 2000. The foundation works to solve many world problems like disease and clean energy. MSN reports that Gates has officially stepped down from the board to focus his time on these issues.

Gates hasn’t been a part of the day-to-day business in over a decade but has now decided to step down completely from the board, as well. Officially he will only act as a technical advisor to the current boss Satya Nadella. This is what Nadella had to say about Gates leaving.

“It’s been a tremendous honor and privilege to have worked with and learned from Bill over the years. Bill founded our company with a belief in the democratizing force of software and a passion to solve society’s most pressing challenges. And Microsoft and the world are better for it. The board has benefited from Bill’s leadership and vision. And Microsoft will continue to benefit from Bill’s ongoing technical passion and advice to drive our products and services forward. I am grateful for Bill’s friendship and look forward to continuing to work alongside him to realize our mission to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more.”

Mr. Nadella

The world can certainly use a few more altruistic Billionaires. How do you think Bill Gates leaving the company will affect the future of Microsoft and Xbox?
