Best Video Game Releases for December 2022

We have reached December and what a brilliant year it has been for video games. Usually, December is quite a slow month for video games so imagine my surprise when I actually found myself having to shave off more than one or two games from quite a large list. Here are my top six best video game releases for December 2022.

Hello Neighbor 2

The highly anticipated sequel to the best-selling horror franchise from TinyBuild. Taking place directly after the events of the original, players will explore the open world of Raven Brooks and search for the missing Mr. Peterson (the Neighbour), while being stalked by a creature controlled by self-learning AI.

Play as Quentin, a local reporter investigating why people have started to mysteriously disappear in Raven Brooks. A string of discoveries will lead you to an abandoned house occupied by a mysterious, raven-like being.

Explore the abandoned house from the original game, while being stalked by an AI, and see the gameplay expand into the open world of Raven Brooks, a sandbox playground where you need to scavenge for useful items while trying to not get caught by the inventive AI.

Unlike the original, where the AI navigated by manually placed waypoints, Hello Neighbour 2 features an AI where navigation patterns are fully dynamic. The mysterious creature will observe the player’s movements and actions and will use that knowledge to prevent players from figuring out the secrets lying within the house and its surroundings.

Hello Neighbor 2 is coming to PC, PlayStation and Xbox Series S/X on the 6th of December 2022.

High on Life

High on Life is an action adventure, comedy game developed and published by Squanch Games.

Fresh out of high school with no job and no ambition, you’ve really got nothing going for you until an alien cartel that wants to get high off humanity invades Earth. Now, you and a team of charismatic talking guns must answer the hero’s call and become the deadliest intergalactic bounty hunter the cosmos has ever seen.

  • Navigate dynamic and changing worlds that range from a jungle paradise, to a city built inside an asteroid, the hub of the cosmos.
  • Leverage the unique skills of each gun to go up against a variety of criminals as you track down the nefarious Garmantuous and his gang of alien goons.
  • Complete hunter challenges, meet weird, fun and hilarious characters, collect an array of alien technology, and more!

It will be released on PC & Xbox on December the 13th

Marvel Midnight Suns

My third entry is a tactical RPG developed by Firaxis Games in collaboration with Marvel Games.

Marvel Midnight Suns is set in the darker, supernatural side of the Marvel Universe.

As the Hunter, a legendary demon slayer with a mysterious past, you’ll lead a team of legendary Marvel heroes as they attempt to stop the Mother of Demons from completing an ancient prophecy and summoning her evil master.

Forge friendships with iconic heroes like Iron Man, Ghost Rider, and Wolverine and many more and fight alongside them in revolutionary card-based tactical battles that reward clever thinking with Super Hero flair.

The Hunter can be male or female and customized in appearance. You will be able to choose The Hunter’s superpowers from over 30 different abilities.

Between combat missions, you will be managing your upgradeable base of operations called “The Abbey” which you can walk around in a third person view to explore the grounds and interact with other heroes.

Role-playing elements such as interaction with other characters will influence the gameplay and those heroes’ abilities. At the start of a new mission, you will be able to choose from three heroes to take into battle.

You are dealt a deck of random ability cards which you are restricted to during the mission. Those abilities will affect either enemies, your own heroes or the environment in order to defeat enemies.

Marvel Midnight Suns will be released on 2nd December on PlayStation, Xbox and on PC.

Callisto Protocol

Also out on the 2nd of December is Callisto Protocol which is my fourth entry on this list.

It is a narrative driven survival horror game developed by Striking Distance Studios and published by Krafton.

It is set three hundred years in the future, where you take on the role of Jacob Lee. Jacob is a victim of fate thrown into Black Iron Prison, a maximum-security penitentiary located on Jupiter’s moon, Callisto.

When inmates begin to transform into monstrous creatures, the prison is thrown into chaos. To survive, Jacob must battle his way to safety to escape Black Iron Prison, while uncovering the dark and disturbing secrets buried beneath the surface of Callisto.

Using a unique blend of shooting and close-quarters combat, Jacob will need to adapt his tactics to combat the rapidly evolving creatures while scavenging to unlock new weapons, gear, and abilities to outrun the growing threat and escape the horrors of Jupiter’s Dead Moon.

Callisto Protocol is released on PC, PlayStation and Xbox.

Chained Echoes

Chained Echoes is a classic 2D RPG with Swords, Magic and … Mechs. Developed by Matthias Linda and published by Deck 13.

It is a story driven JRPG where a group of heroes travel around the vast continent of Valandis to bring an end to the war between its three kingdoms.

In the course of their journey, they will travel through a wide array of diverse landscapes spanning from wind-tanned plateaus and exotic archipelagos to sunken cities and forgotten dungeons.

Take up your sword, channel your magic or board your Mech. Chained Echoes is a 16-bit SNES style RPG set in a fantasy world. A world where dragons are as common as piloted mechanical suits.

Follow a group of heroes as they explore a land filled to the brim with charming characters, fantastic landscapes and vicious foes.

Can you bring peace to a continent where war has been waged for generations and betrayal lurks around every corner?

The game is released on 8th of December. It is available for PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch.

Wavetale

My final entry is a game that I have actually played roughly about the first ninety minutes of. It is a chilled, action-adventure game developed and published by Thunderful.

What game am I talking about? Wavetale! Those of you that already own a Google Stadia may well be familiar with this. It is the port from Stadia onto PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch.

In Wavetale you will find yourself surfing the waters of a submerged city! Unravel the past, save the islanders from mysterious sea monsters and discover secrets hidden under the surface.

Explore an open sea and the decaying archipelago of Strandville in Wavetale. Introducing you to fed-up fishermen, secretive hermits and maybe a pirate or two. Traverse calm waters and surging waves as Sigrid. A young girl who befriends a mysterious shadow that provides her with the power to walk on water.

Speed through the waves, swing yourself from housetops with your net, and defeat an old nemesis to save the citizens of the islands. All with a bit of help from the shadows down below and your cranky grandmother!

Wavetale is released on the 8th of December.
