Baldur’s Gate 3 Coming To Early Access This Year

Baldur's Gate 3

Hasbro, Wizards of the Coast’s parent company, has announced that Larian Studios’ Baldur’s Gate 3 will be making its way to Steam Early Access at the end of this year.

“Early Access” refers to a game being made available prior to its release in an alpha state. Usually it will include a limited section of the game. This offers gamers a chance to test out the title prior to release, but also helps the studio to raise funds to aid in development.

This won’t be the first time Larian Studios has had a game in Early Access. Divinity: Original Sin 2 had a trial version released ahead of its launch on both Steam and the Microsoft Store prior to the launch of the Xbox One port.

Hasbro made the announcement at an investor’s event during the New York Toy Fair. During the event, Hasbro highlighted several upcoming Dungeons and Dragons RPG’s in development. Among these was the upcoming console Hack and Slash title Dark Alliance.

Hasbro stated they intend to release a new Dungeons and Dragons game yearly until 2025.

Hasbro also used the event to illustrate the growing interest in the Dungeons and Dragons IP. They showed off that 65% of PC and Console RPG’s gamers had positive brand awareness regarding D&D. With its recent explosion into pop culture, Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast mean to capitalize on the growing fanbase.

Baldur’s Gate 3 made the news recently with the announcement of a gameplay reveal, which you can read about here.
