2021 isn’t shaping up to be the best year for games but there are some glimpses of hope as Axiom Verge 2 will now launch this spring on Nintendo Switch & Epic Games Store. For those not in the know, Axiom Verge was a wonderfully nostalgic Metroidvania. Released in 2015 that has been ported to pretty much every platform available at the time – including the PlayStation Vita and Wii U. More impressive is the expansive platformer is the work of one developer, Thomas Happ.
It would be fair to say that Axiom Verge was one of those games that helped renew interest in the Metroidvania genre. This author, being the hipster that he is, would like to point he liked Metroidvania’s BEFORE they were cool.
16 bit goodness!
Axiom Verge 2 was announced in an Indie World presentation in 2019 – with an original Switch release date of Fall 2020. This moved to 2021. As part of the GameRadar Spring Showcase, it was confirmed this was now for Spring (alongside some lovely gameplay footage). Check out the footage below!
