Australian Fallout 76 Players Offered Refunds

What a terrible few weeks its been for Fallout 76 and Bethesda. Aside from all of the obvious issues with the game itself, Bethesda’s recent Fallout First hasn’t had the best start. However, there’s even worse news for Bethesda now.

Bethesda’s parent company ZeniMax are set to offer Australian players a refund. Thanks to an Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) ruling, ZeniMax must offer refunds for certain Fallout 76 players. The ACCC enforces Australian consumer protection laws. If a product is proven faulty and/or is drastically different from the description, under Australian Consumer Laws, consumers are eligible to ask for a refund.

In a statement released by the ACCC, the authority;

“received complaints that ZeniMax representatives told consumers that they were not entitled to a refund after they had experienced a variety of faults with the Fallout 76 game, including, in some cases, problems with the servers, lagging, graphic and visual problems.”

Furthermore, according to the ACCC Commissioner Sarah Court, as ZeniMax has;

“acknowledged that they are likely to have misled certain Australian consumers about their rights to a refund when they experienced faults with their Fallout 76 game.”

Not So Fast, However…

There’s a bit of catch. Firstly, you must be an Australian player (obviously). And secondly, you must have contacted ZeniMax between 24th November 2018 and 1st June 2019 and asked for a refund. Presuming you match that criteria, you should be okay. It is unknown if you will be offered a refund after 1st June.
