Let’s face it, one of the best aspects of a Final Fantasy game is its music. The battle theme gets stuck in your head for hours after playing. Your dreams start being accompanied by tunes from the game. And years after playing a game, you can hear one of the songs from it and tear up. If only there were a game where the entire plot revolves around music. Well, looks like we’re going to get a game like that later this year!
Final Fantasy veterans Kazushige Nojima (writer for FFVII, FFX) and Hitoshi Sakimoto (Composer for FFXII and FF Tactics) are apparently hard at work on a new JRPG called Astria Ascending. The new game will feature turn-based combat and hand-drawn graphics reminiscent of Child of Light or Dragon’s Crown. The player will play as one of eight demigods as they try to unearth the reason behind the appearance of demons called “Noises”.
The trailer gives just about enough to leave me intrigued. Interesting races, FF music and gorgeous art.
There is also a short interview with Sakimoto and Nojima for your viewing pleasure:
Astria Ascending will launch later this year on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Switch, and PC (Steam).
