In a traditional yearly Ubisoft “leak” details have emerged regarding the next installment in the Assassin’s Creed franchise.
You can find all of the details on Reddit but here is a quick recap of the overall details so far:
Assassin’s Creed: Ragnarok
- Ragnarok is set in the early 1000’s AD
- There is no female protagonist
- You play as a Danish Viking
- The map will consist of Denmark, southern Sweden & Norway, as well as parts of Ireland and England
- The main political driving point will be regarding the Saxon Kingdoms
- A big theme of the game will revolve around change and the many Norse converting to Christianity and will show Norse power dwindling
Allegedly, a Dev (the source for the leak) claimed thus far Ireland and Norway are his favourite regions to explore. One particular quest in Ireland has you searching for missing children down a well and it evolves into a Celtic folklore mystery quest. Whilst another has the protagonist climbing a mountain in Norway and he sees apparitions of an Odin like character…
No mention of the First Civilization
While this new set of rumors about “Assassin’s Creed: Ragnarok” is informative, it is still unknown how the actual assassins fit with this sort of time and setting. Those that played Assassin’s Creed: Origins & Odyssey will know they did not feature assassins, (besides some DLC added later on to both games), and it’s thought Ragnarok will follow this new tradition.
Earlier rumors, however, claimed that the next game will be set a millennium following the birth of order, suggesting that assassins might well make a return to their named franchise.
No more roleplaying?
In Sept. 2018, Ubisoft Game Director Scott Phillips revealed that all future titles in the “Assassin’s Creed” series would include gender selection. This would mean that Ragnarok goes against this, although a previous leak said that players can choose between a male and female protagonist.
As always, it’s worth noting that nothing has been confirmed by anyone from Ubisoft regarding the next product in the Assassin’s Creed franchise. These are, after all, just rumours and so should not be considered as solid fact. This leak could be true, subject to change or completely off the mark. We have absolutely no way of knowing until Ubisoft confirm something.
