Ubisoft has today announced, following an earlier leak, that the next Assassin’s Creed game will be an evolving Live Service Online game entitled ‘Assassin’s Creed Infinity’.
Taking a page from the likes of Fortnite and GTA Online, Infinity will span multiple time periods with updates and new settings being rolled out on a regular basis, with the project ultimately lasting several years.
According to a Ubisoft spokesperson, AC Infinity will ‘exceed the expectations of fans who have been asking for a more cohesive approach’
In a blog post acknowledging the existence of the game, no information was given other than it will be a collaboration between Ubisoft Montreal and Ubisoft Quebec.
Remember this from AC Unity? This is what Infinity could be like…
Ubisoft has stated that the reason for doing this is because:
Rather than continuing to pass the baton from game to game, we profoundly believe this is an opportunity for one of Ubisoft’s most beloved franchises to evolve in a more integrated and collaborative manner that’s less centred on studios and more focused on talent and leadership, no matter where they are within Ubisoft
While we know there’s always room for improvement, we believe this new structure allows us to ensure that diversity and representation within our teams continues to grow and match that of our players.
But what does this mean for the standard, and well-loved, AC single player games?
With updates still being rolled out for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla till at least the end of next year, we can hope they’ll still be faithful to us single players.
More details for both Assassin’s Creed Infinity and AC Valhalla‘s second year are promised for a later date.
