Arena of Valor on Nintendo Switch – Closed Beta Announced

Originally created for the mobile platform and known as Kings of Glory in China, Arena of Valor has become one of the most popular MOBA games available since it’s launch in 2015.  Earlier this year the game was released on PC and now it’s set to be released on the Nintendo Switch.

As a multiplayer online battle arena game, created by developer Tencent, Arena of Valor boasts a player base of  over 200 million with over 80 million in daily active users.   As evidence of it’s continued growth this year Arena of Valor also expanded into the esports arena with their first season’s championships being held at the Los Angeles Convention Centre during E3 and the World Cup to be played later this year.

Game play is based on teams of 5 competing to capture territory and defeat enemies while leveling up to gain new powers for their chosen hero.  The team to take over their enemy’s base is the winner.   The heroes, like many of these types of games, started out primarily as historical god-like heroes but in recent years Arena of Valor has seen the rare addition of DC comic book characters like Batman and Wonder Woman.

Originally being designed for the mobile platform makes the expansion to the Nintendo Switch seem to be the perfect next step. Although the release is not until the fall Tencent is hosting an upcoming closed beta that will allow players to try it out on the Switch.  The beta will run from June 28 to July 12 and will allow players to try out the single-player (against AI) mode as well as the online matches with a roster of more than 30 heroes.  Unfortunately the DC characters will not be available during the beta.  The upcoming beta will also allow both US and European players to participate.
