This months Indie game that we are featuring is Adonis. I wrote about it on the 4th Nov. Today I would like to share with you more information about the game and the interview that I had with CEO and Founder, Michael L Fiorentino Gutierrez.
Adonis has been developed by Lorenzo games. They are a small Indie team based in Los Angeles. I have included a staff list below about who is behind the magic of Adonis.
When I first read the title of the game, my thought were transported to the mortal lover of the goddess Aphrodite. What is the story behind the games title?
There is indeed a heavy dose of factual Greek mythology tied into the PvE aspects of the game. The Land of Candala, the fictional open world I’ve created for players to battle and explore, is considered Adonis’ homeland (not necessarily his birthplace). There is also a metaphorical sense behind both the title and the land that is considered Adonis’ homeland. The word ‘Adonis’ itself refers to how beautiful and desirable the land itself is. (leading to inevitable territory battles that play out in both PvP and PvE aspects of the game).
Where did the idea for Adonis come from?
I wanted to create a large-scale, open world PvP experience using unique, stylized art and bright colors to create a truly nostalgic experience. I think back to my days in the late 90’s of playing N64 titles such as Banjo Kazooie (& sequel), Super Mario 64 and other “nearly open world” games that were the closest we had to an open world experience at the time. The dynamics of those stylizations and colors always weighed heavily in my mind moving forward in my game development career. Adonis was a behind-the-scenes project originally that came to the forefront when I realized that my goals could be fully realized with Adonis.
What would you like to tell our readers about the game?
Adonis truly is different than ANYTHING else they’ve experienced before. It is a truly mesmerizing open world PvP experience powered by a customized version of Unreal Engine.
In addition to the unique gameplay elements (stylized & customizable characters, open world territory battles, weather content patches to be released affecting battles in live time), our game also officially supports the latest technology capable with the RTX 3000 Series (3080, 3090, etc) and all other RTX cards. We have worked with NVIDIA to bring Adonis to the brink of what is capable for an indie title in terms of RTX and DLSS 2.0 technology and we will continue to do so for the lifespan of Adonis (we plan to consistently release free content patches for Adonis and we won’t be raising price once Adonis leaves early access).
What characters will be available to play in the game?
The other characters include a knight (uses heavier weapons than the primary swordsman), mage, seer and archer. We already have customizable skin tones, hair colors, wardrobes and other customizable functions for these characters that will be available soon for our beta testers. Additionally, we are working on female versions of the primary characters and we already have a female archer that will be playable at launch (along with the other aforementioned characters).
How does it differ from other PVP games that are out there?
Other MMORPG PvP titles are based on similar lore and styles, with “realistic” type graphics and battles that are almost predictable. Adonis brings a different sense of lore, stylization and imagination to the forefront of not only indie development, but the game industry at large.
Adonis allows for real-time dodging of spellcast attacks (and other special attacks) and requires a certain level of aim and accuracy to both attack and defend in-the-moment scenarios. Specifically, the “roll” feature that we already have implemented in the game, in addition to other movement features already available in the game are other combat features that truly set Adonis apart from a lot of other titles out there.
Are there plans to release Adonis onto console? If so, will this be for the existing generation or the next generation?
There are indeed plans to release Adonis on console. We are currently in discussions with Microsoft and Sony regarding their next generation consoles. In regards to Sony, it is likely that Adonis would be a PlayStation 5 release and not available on PlayStation 4. We are also in discussions with Nintendo for a potential Nintendo Switch release, but I can’t confirm further details yet regarding that.
Adonis will be released on PC on the 13th November 2020 and the price will be $29.99 USD ($22.49 USD discounted launch price)
