A New Problem For PlayStation 4 Players

If you’re not exactly rolling in money this year, you might have an issue upgrading to the PlayStation 5. Your PS4 controllers won’t be (universally) compatible with the new console. Meaning you’ll be limited to one controller for a large portion of gameplay.

If you’re looking to invest in a PlayStation 5 this year, you best go the full-hog.

By this, we mean, you best make sure you invest in a PlayStation 5 DualSense controller…or two; the DualShock 4 won’t be widely useful.

Naturally, any purchase of a new PS5 will come with a DualSense. But you won’t be able to use the PS4 controller for a whole lot.

Sony has noted that you can use the DualShock 4 controller for “supported” PS4 games on the PS5. How many and what these games are still remains to be seen.

Of course, if you’re of the mindset where this isn’t a concern, then it won’t affect you in the slightest. However, if you’re a little on the strapped-for-cash side of things this year, you might not have enough money to afford two separate, expensive controllers.

A full rundown of what will (and will not) work on the PlayStation 5 can be found here.
