This pandemic has been hard on all of us. Least of all: 6-year-old Otto who has had a particularly acute case of cabin fever. Lucky for Otto, his loving father Trent found a way to ease the symptoms, somewhat; with a little help from Rare.
A Father’s Love knows No Bounds
You see, Otto is a massive fan of Rare’s pirate simulator Sea of Thieves. So his father Trent reached out to the developers asking for help in a heartfelt message, via Twitter.
The message read: “My son (6) LOVES sea of thieves. To the point that every hike we go on, he is looking for old pirate treasure,” Trent asked Rare. “Any chance I could get in touch to come up with an amazing treasure hunt for him that would follow suit of SOT?? I wish I had the talent to make my own …not so much luck lol. Any info or little bit of help would be much appreciated. Hard times for a little dude to be stuck playing with his dad all the time.”
Some Pretty Big Help From Heavy Names At Rare
A few months go by before Trent reveals he’s been working with Rare’s very own Gregg Mayles and Mike Chapman to make his son’s dream come true. Trent went out and scouted the forest and surrounding area, around their home in Madison, Wisconsin so that Mayels and Chapman could write fitting riddles for Otto.
As you can see from the video above Rare went all out on their Sea of Thieves treasure hunt. Yua can see that the note mentions “a house in the woods,” “a smelly dump,” and a street name to lead the father and son duo in the right direction complete with the number of steps to take to reach the booty. But what did young Otto find at the finish? Well, Rare sent over a goodie bag all the way from the UK with the Sea of Thieves Role-Playing Game, a special edition Xbox controller, a cool beanie, a pirate mug, and a signed letter from the devs.
“He 100% thought it was real pirate treasure until the final letter from Gregg and Mike,” Trent said.
So there you have it. If you want to see exactly how the pirate-pair got on you can check out this video, posted on Reddit.
